Pre-Publication Diary - July 14th 2015.

Welcome to the exclusive subscribers area of my official site where I'll be sharing news and updates on "The Recipient" that are not available to general viewers.

Here you'll find pre-publication updates, diary entries and behind the scenes information on the writing and editing of the novel. Additionally, subscribers will have the opportunity to participate in pre-release sweeps and giveaway. As always, welcome your feedback and suggestions so feel free to contact us and let us know your thoughts.

July 14th 2015: Pre-publication update. I was pleased to be featured in the 13th July edition of the Latrobe Valley Express, my home town newspaper. The Express, a part of the Fairfax media group, has a wide circulation throughout Eastern Victoria, Australia and is a valuable publication for rural and regional Australians.

On July 17th at 7PM (Eastern US time), I will be a guest on the Newbie Writers' Podcast, discussing my forthcoming novel "The Recipient" and my career as a writer to date. Hosted by Damien Boath and Catharine Brankamp, The Newbie Writers' Podcast is a great program for writers' at all stages of their publishing journey. Check your local guides for broadcast times - but to give you an idea, I'll actually be sitting down at my desk here in Adelaide at 8:30AM Saturday morning.

On July 20th, from 1.30PM (Australian Central Standard Time), I'll be the in-studio guest on ABC Afternoons with presenter Sonia Feldhoff. We'll be discussing "The Recipient" and my dual career as an author and Intensive Care Nurse. Listeners can tune in to the show via the ABC Radio Online App or via TuneIn Radio (Search for ABC Adelaide).

JULY 5th 2015: Pre-publication update.

As I write this, I am pleased to say that the final edits on the novel are almost complete. Advanced Reading Copies (ARC's) of the novel have gone out to major reviewers and we are waiting to see what those pre-publication reviews yield for us.  Now, you might be asking, why would we be seeking reviews if we are still editing. Well, the text is largely complete, however, there are some minor tweaks that we have agreed to make in order to make the novel the best that it can be.

My publisher and I will, this week, begin working on a more detailed marketing strategy and begin querying books bloggers and media outlets in both North America and here in Australia.

MAY 25th 2015: The Recipient - International Teaser Trailer.

MAY 1st 2015: Central Avenue Publishing and Dean Mayes are proud to reveal the cover art for Dean's highly anticipated new novel "The Recipient" which is scheduled for world wide release in October 2015.

A tense and pulse pounding thriller, in the tradition of Jeffrey Deaver and James Patterson, The Recipient promises to be a significant achievement for Dean Mayes (The Hambledown Dream, Gifts of the Peramangk).

"Fans of Dean's work will not be disappointed. His flowing prose and ability to create engaging characters come through again – but this time they’re coupled with a scary, gripping story" - Michelle Halket, Creative Director, Central Avenue Publishing.

The story follows Casey Schillinge, a young heart transplant recipient who undergoes not only a life-saving operation but upon recovery, a life changing transformation.  Three years later, Casey has become a withdrawn shell of her former self: she is estranged from her loved ones, afraid of open spaces and rides the line between legitimate and criminal work as a computer software specialist. The worst of her troubles come in the form of violent night terrors; so frightening that she resorts to extreme measures to keep herself from sleeping.  When she can take no more, she embarks on a desperate search for the source of her dreams. In so doing, she makes a shocking discovery surrounding the tragic fate of the donor whose heart now beats inside her chest. As she delves deeper into the mystery of her donor, she realizes her dreams are not a figment of her imagination, but a real life
nightmare.

An exclusive excerpt from the novel is live now at Central Avenue Publishing's official site The Recipient is scheduled for an October 25th, 2015 global release in print and digital formats.
